Screen Overlays: Choosing the Right Screen

IndoFinity gives you 10 Screen overlays for the Interaction Center. Each Screen has its own link, and every Interaction is sent to one of them.

Why there are ten

A Screen can only show one action at a time.

If all your Interactions go to Screen 1, actions that arrive together have to queue: the gift alert waits for the follow alert to finish, and so on. On a busy live this queue gets long, and some actions are dropped.

Spreading Interactions across several Screens lets alerts show at the same time, and in different positions, because each Screen is its own Browser Source that you can move and resize in OBS.

A sensible way to split them

There is no fixed rule, but this pattern works for most streamers:

ScreenContentsReason
Screen 1Gift alertsShows up most often, so it gets its own spot
Screen 2Follow, share, and subscribe alertsMedium frequency
Screen 3"Person joins live" actionsMust be separate, see the warning below
Screen 4Videos or large imagesUsually fill the screen, so don't stack them
Screen 5+Everything else, as needed
Keep "Person joins live" actions separate

An action fired by viewers joining runs every time one person comes in. On a busy live that can be dozens of times per minute. If it shares a Screen with other alerts, those alerts get delayed or dropped.

The dashboard warns about this too: "This action is triggered by 'user join' and shares Screen with other overlay actions, so those actions may be queued or dropped. Fix: move this action to its own screen."

Which actions need a Screen

Screens are only used by actions that show or play on the overlay:

  • Show Image
  • Play Video File
  • Play Audio
  • Show Alert (User + Text)
  • Read Text (TTS)

Other actions (Minecraft commands, webhooks, keystrokes, OBS control, Win/Lose, Spin Roulette) don't use a Screen at all. For an Interaction that contains only those actions, the Screen you pick makes no difference.

Tip

Only add the Screens you use. An idle Browser Source still uses CPU and RAM, and you will feel it when you stream while gaming.

Common problems

Symptom: the dashboard marks a Screen as offline. The message reads: "This Screen is still offline, its overlay isn't installed yet." No Browser Source has opened that Screen's link yet. Copy the link and add it in OBS.

Symptom: alerts overlap or some are skipped. Too many Interactions are piled onto one Screen. Move some to other Screens, or tick Cut short if another action is queued on Interactions that are fine to cut off.

Symptom: alerts don't appear at all. The Screen set in the Interaction doesn't match the link added in OBS. This is the most common cause.
