OBS control: switch scenes and sources automatically
If your alerts, videos, or sounds don't show up in OBS, this page won't fix that. What you need is Installing Overlays in OBS, and that works without the connection described here.
The OBS connection on this page is entirely optional. If you never fill it in, all alerts, overlays, TTS, and widgets keep working as usual.
What it is
The OBS connection opens a single command channel from IndoFinity to your OBS. It has one purpose: to let an Interaction switch scenes or turn on a source in OBS when a certain gift or comment arrives.
Here is everything it can and can't control:
| Can | Can't |
|---|---|
| Switch to a specific scene | Start or stop recording |
| Return to the original scene after a set number of seconds | Start or stop streaming |
| Turn on a source | Change filters |
| Turn that source off again after a set number of seconds | Adjust audio or mute |
| Change a source's text or media | |
| Transitions, virtual camera, screenshots |
The "can't" list is not a temporary limitation. IndoFinity only sends those four commands to OBS.
Before you start
- OBS Studio 28 or newer. WebSocket is built in, so you don't need to install any plugin.
- OBS has to be running, either on the same computer as the IndoFinity dashboard or on another computer reachable over the network.
- You need at least one scene and one source in OBS already. If OBS is still empty, there will be nothing to pick in the Interaction later.
Setup steps
1. Turn on the WebSocket server in OBS
In OBS, go to Tools → WebSocket Server Settings, then tick Enable WebSocket server.
Forgetting to tick this box is the most common reason the connection fails. If the connection test in IndoFinity says OBS isn't answering, check this first.
2. Note the port and password
In the same window:
- Server Port:
4455by default. Leave it unless you changed it on purpose. - Server Password: click Show Connect Info to see it. If Enable Authentication is unticked, you can leave the password field in IndoFinity empty.
3. Fill in the details in IndoFinity
Open the Connection menu, then the OBS Control (Scene & Source) card:
- IP:
localhostif OBS is on the same computer. If it's on another computer, enter that computer's local IP. - Port:
4455, or the port you saw in step 2. - Password: from Show Connect Info. Leave it empty if authentication is off.
Click Test Connection. The result appears below the button and stays there, so you can alt-tab to OBS and come back to read it.
Triggering it from the Interaction Center
This connection does nothing on its own. It's only used when an Interaction asks for it.
Open the Interaction Center, create or edit an Interaction, then turn on one of these two options:
Switch Scene
Moves OBS to the scene you pick. There are two modes:
- Temporary: returns to the original scene when the Interaction's duration ends.
- Permanent: stays on the new scene until you or another Interaction moves it.
Activate Source
Turns on one source in a given scene, then turns it off again when the Interaction's duration ends. Good for flashing an image or video briefly when a gift comes in.
The scene and source lists in both options come straight from your OBS, so fill in OBS Control and test the connection first. Until it's connected, the lists are empty.
Common problems
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong OBS password | The port is right and OBS answered, but authentication was rejected | Open Tools → WebSocket Server Settings → Show Connect Info and copy the password again |
OBS did not answer at ip:port | Nothing is answering at that address | Make sure OBS is running, then check that Enable WebSocket server is ticked and the port matches |
| Scene list is empty in the Interaction Center | The connection has never succeeded | Go back to the OBS Control card and test the connection until it succeeds |
| Alerts don't appear even though the OBS connection works | You're on the wrong card | Alerts come through a Browser Source; see Installing Overlays in OBS |
| The scene switches but never comes back | The mode is Permanent, or the Interaction's duration is 0 | Change the mode to Temporary and set a duration |
